These trays and are made with sustainability and our ecology in mind. Every consideration of the design had to respect the earth, without compromising quality or beauty. The process begins by collecting a diverse mix of hardwood offcuts from a group of local, artisanal woodworking shops and design houses. These hodgepodge collections of various wood species, shapes and sizes are sorted, carefully considered and then amalgamated into blocks. I use waterbased, non-toxic, glue. These blocks are CNC sculpted into the trays, bowls, boxes, and other items in my collection. I build, sand, and then oil each of these pieces by hand. The oil used is foodsafe, which helps reduce contamination to our bodies, and the environment.
I expect and hope that you will keep your piece for a very long time, but it's compostable if you don't! That's food for thought.
